There has been something of a railway theme in some of my posts this week. So to maintain this momentum, today’s quote is train-linked…
And I could not resist letting you see this clip of another poem inspired by train travel: Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Railway”.
Have a marvellous weekend and may all your journeys be happy ones. 😀 🚂
I love the “railroad” theme. Great collection of poetry. My favorite is by Edna St. Vincent Millay: “My heart is warm with the friends I make, And better friends I’ll not be knowing, Yet there isn’t a train I wouldn’t take, No matter where it’s going.” Have a great weekend!

Fabulous! Thanks so much for adding so eloquently to the theme! 🙂

If I hadn’t agreed to keep score for a cricket team (when I didn’t really need to), I wouldn’t have met Dave. If I hadn’t met Dave I wouldn’t know about West Somerset’s Railway Station, Stogumber. And if I hadn’t gone to Stogumber Station I would have missed Dave’s proposal of marriage to me there 21 years ago.
Grasp those opportunities! x

I haven’t travelled in a modern high speed train; does one even get a glimpse of the scenery? Or is it a blur? This poem evokes nostalgia.

I have enjoyed this train theme! I had also forgotten the RLS poem. It was in all the anthologies I had as a child.

P.S. I also meant to say that Will Rogers must have been a very witty man. I have read quite a few of his droll remarks.

Yes, he seems to have been quite a character. One of his other quotes which I like is ‘never miss a good chance to shut up’ – genius! 😀
